CipherBio Weekly Digest: Week of Jan 20 – 26 2022

This week life science growth continues and we report a total of $1.7B in deals and 136 new events, including M&A, IPOs and Funds Raised. Additionally, we added 51 new companies and 20 new investors to our CipherBio PRO platform.

Zoi raises $23M in Seed round led by Jean-Claud Marian and Stephane Bancel. In Series A, Cellino raises $80M led by Leaps by Bayer. Metagenomi, a gene-editing company, gets $175M in Series B round led by PFM Health Sciences. Distalmotion receives $90M / Series E led by Revival Healthcare Capital and joined by 415 Capital.

The big news this week UCB Pharma acquires Zogenix for $1.8 billion. Psychedelic-focused drug company Eleusis is merging with Silver Spike Acquisition Corp. II, a special purposes acquisition company, and going to the Nasdaq with a deal of $288 million.

Funds Raised

San Francisco-basedBuilders VC raises $250M in Builders Fund II from undisclosed investors and will deploy some of that capital into Canadian startups. eHealth Ventures, a consortium conceived to provide incubation services to promising early-stage healthcare technology companies, raises $30 million in eHV Advanced Fund.

Starfield, food & science technology, raised $100M in Series B round led by Primavera Capital Group, Lightspeed China Partners and Joy Capital. FlipDish raised $100M in Series C led by Tencent. In AgTech MycoWorks raised $125M in Series C to build a new alt-leather factory. WayCool raised $117M in Series D led by LightRock, LightBox, FMO and others.
